ATEX cable glands
Whether in the chemical environment, the paint and varnish industry or the pharmaceutical industry, wherever electrical engineering and explosive atmospheres come together, the greatest attention is required. Organic gas evolution from the processing of natural raw materials as well as man-made substances that are highly flammable pose a risk to any electrical process. Explosion protection is subject to country-specific rules, but what all nations have in common is the relevance of enclosed housings and cable glands to prevent contact between electrical contacts and explosive atmospheres or at least to prevent a possible explosion from escaping the housing. In addition to the Treva ATEX control cabinet, BOXEXPERT also offers explosion-proof cable glands.
In the case of the ATEX cable glands, special attention was paid to three points. The long connection thread allows maximum safety with regard to the fastening quality. Large, stable wrench flats on the pressure nut and the lower part enable secure tightening of the screw connection. The sealing insert ensures an optimum seal due to its shape and coordinated internal contours, whereby a protection class of IP68 (30 bar) can be guaranteed.
In addition to the standard ATEX cable gland, there is also a version with clamping jaws. According to EN 60079 it is specified that at the latest after 300 mm after the device a further fixation of the cable has to take place to protect it from being torn out (strain relief). In order to meet this standard, especially in confined spaces, the cable gland is also available with clamping jaws. This ensures a further fixation of the cable directly at the exit of the cable gland and thus conformity to standards can be ensured.
The cable glands are tested according to the following standards:
