WHICH STANDARDS APPLY?
The relevant standards for boxes, enclosures and parts of enclosures for electrical installation equipment are as follows:
- DIN EN 60670-1 (VDE 0606-1)
- DIN EN 61439-1 (VDE 0660-600-1)
- DIN EN 62208 (VDE 0660-511)
DIN EN 60670-1
The standard DIN EN 60670-1, VDE 0606-1 applies to boxes, enclosures and parts of enclosures for electrical installation equipment with a rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC intended for domestic and similar fixed electrical installations indoors or outdoors.
DIN EN 61439-1
“The IEC 61439 standard (…) and the national standards DIN EN 61439, SN EN 61439, ÖVE/ÖNORM EN 61439 in the German-speaking area, deals with safety-related requirements for low-voltage switchgear. Among other things, it concerns electrical power distribution in buildings and industrial applications. (…) The new EN (IEC) 61439 series of standards defines clear rules for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies (SC). It specifies the safety requirements for electrical equipment for planners, system builders, electrical installers and end customers in order to comply with protection targets for persons and systems in electrical installations.” (Wikipedia: 30.01.2020, https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_61439)
DIN EN 62208
“This standard applies to empty enclosures as supplied by the enclosure manufacturer before equipment is installed by the switchgear assembly manufacturer.
It specifies terms, classifications, distinguishing characteristics and test requirements for enclosures intended for use with, for example, switchgear assemblies complying with standards of the IEC 61439 series with a rated voltage not exceeding 1 000 V AC or 1 500 V DC, for general indoor or outdoor use.”
